Massachusetts Twisters owner Paul LaPointe announced today that the team has signed an agreement with energy drink manufacturer Red Bull to become a team sponsor for the 2006-07 season.
“In a short amount of time, Red Bull has become a major player in the American soccer community,” said LaPointe. “With their purchase last winter of the MetroStars and their investment in that team’s new stadium, they are showing their commitment to make soccer and Red Bull energy drink synonymous.”
In addition, Red Bull will be sponsoring a soccer clinic prior to an upcoming Twisters home game at the Eastern States Coliseum. The clinic will feature an appearance by Taylor Twellmen, the high-scoring forward of the New England Revolution. A second-generation soccer pro, Twellmen has become one of the up and coming star players in Major League Soccer. In his five year MLS career, Twellman has scored 77 goals in 136 games. He has also made 17 appearances for the US Men’s National Team.
Twellmen’s father Tim, played in the NASL and the MISL in the late seventies and early eighties. Two of his uncles, Mike and Steve, also played in the NASL.
The date of the clinic will be announced once Twellmen’s commitments to the Revolution have been completed.
The Twisters will open their 2006-07 campaign on December 2nd, when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the 2005-06 champion Excite. They will open the home portion of the schedule on December 16th when they will host the New York Empire at the Eastern States Coliseum.
