Deren Will Be The Next Twister Signed!

Massachusetts Twisters owner Paul Lapointe announced this afternoon the signing of Springfield native Jeff Deren to a contract for the 2006-07 season.

A 5’7” forward, Deren led the Western Massachusetts Pioneers of the United Soccer League in scoring in 2006 with 9 goals and 1 assist in 17 games this season. In his three previous seasons with the Pioneers, Deren scored 13 goals and added 5 assists in 39 games.

Prior to joining the Pioneers, Deren played for B1913, one of the top clubs in Denmark’s first division.

“Deren is an explosive scorer,” said Lapointe. “He takes his role seriously, and that’s what we are looking for in a forward. He will take very quickly to the indoor game, and has a chance to be one of the best players in the AISL.”

The Twisters will open its 2006-07 campaign on December 2nd, when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the 2005-06 AISL champion Excite. They will open the home portion of the schedule on December 16th when they will host the New York/Hampton Surf at the Eastern States Coliseum.
